The Railway History Behind Coalfield Freight
Trainload Freight was the freight operating arm of British Rail, divided into four sectors: Coal, Construction, Metals and Petroleum. The Coalfield Freight Train Set recreates a typical freight train formed of a Class 37 locomotive and ‘Merry-Go-Round’ hopper wagons. The name refers to the curved sidings at power stations, which allowed a complete train to be unloaded without the locomotive needing to run round to the other end of the train.
