As an alternative to the R8250 Controller, the Analogue Train and Accessory Controller features an improved, heavier casing, as well as an additional uncontrolled DC output, with integral capacitor discharge unit (CDU) to support solenoid point motors. The Auxiliary output can also be used to power lighting on the layout up to a current of 150mA.
A recessed reduction switch also limits the output to reduce loco speed, ideal if the set is being used by a young child.
This can be used with the same transformer that has come with Hornby sets since about 2012.
You might also take a look at Bachmann 36-565 or Gaugemaster Combi for alternative controllers if you want a different brand.
